A fan filter unit (FFU) looks like a catalogue item, but the unit that arrives is defined by seven decisions. Confirming them up front is what allows a supplier to quote a fixed configuration with matching documents instead of a price range that changes later.
1. Module size and ceiling interface
State the nominal module size the ceiling grid is designed for, for example 1175 × 575 mm or 1175 × 1175 mm, and the grid type (T-grid width, gel-seal or gasket-seal ceiling). The unit’s outer dimensions, its weight on the grid and the way it seals to the ceiling all follow from this.
2. Supply voltage and frequency
Give the site supply as it is actually wired at the ceiling: for example 230 V / 50 Hz single phase, or another voltage and frequency. Motors and controllers are selected for a specific supply. Confirm the destination mains supply with the order. Do not assume one voltage or frequency for every destination.
3. Filter grade
Specify the efficiency class using the standard your project or validation protocol references, for example H13 or H14 to EN 1822. If the project documentation uses another classification, state it exactly so the equivalent can be confirmed rather than assumed.
4. Airflow or face velocity
Specify either the design airflow per unit or the face velocity at the filter face, together with the pressure drop allowance the ceiling design assumes. This decides the motor and fan selection and whether the unit meets the target when the filter is loaded, not only when new.
5. Motor type and control interface
Confirm whether the project wants AC, EC or DC motors and how the units are controlled: a manual speed setting on the unit, a 0–10 V signal, Modbus RTU, or a group controller. Group control and building-management integration add wiring, addresses and commissioning work that the buyer’s team has to plan for.
6. Filter replacement direction
Room-side replaceable units allow the filter to be changed from inside the room without lifting the unit out of the grid. Top-side replacement needs access above the ceiling. The choice changes the housing, the clamps and the maintenance procedure.
7. Quantity, destination and site responsibilities
Give the quantity per configuration, the destination country or port, and who will unload, install, connect and test the units on site. The quotation states packing per unit, the delivery basis and which spare parts are included, so that the buyer’s contractor can plan the work.
What a complete request looks like
24 × FFU, 1175 × 575 mm, gel-seal T-grid ceiling, 230 V / 50 Hz, H14 to EN 1822, 0.45 m/s face velocity, EC motor with 0–10 V control, room-side replaceable filter, destination country named on the order, installation by our own contractor.
With this information a fixed configuration can be quoted. Without module size, supply and filter grade, any price is provisional.
